Video production: Why music matters

Music and music choice can sometimes be the most important part of a video. In fact, in most cases, music can make or break a video. Music can be the part of a video that brings the visual content to life. By itself, visuals can be impactful, but, when used correctly, music amplifies that impact.

Let's look at an example.

Below is a video that contains absolutely no musical elements. There is only visual content and the sound effects of those visual elements. Pay attention to the mood of the video and how you feel while watching it.

Now, let’s unmute the music and watch the video again.

After watching both versions of the video, you will notice that the music brings life to the video and adds some chill vibes. Much like the experience of drinking coffee — or, in this case, getting your Starbucks fix — this specific song is fun. It also has that perfect mix of chords to mimic the tone of the commercial.

What happens if we take another song with a similar style and pace and use it with this video?

You will notice that this song still has a chill and fun vibe, but the chords don’t quite match the tone of making your own coffee and realizing that you can’t make better coffee than Starbucks.

When selecting music for your video, pay close attention to the tone, pace, and chord progressions. Be sure the song you choose fits the story of your video rather than distracts from it.

At Pair Productions, we use our musical backgrounds to ensure that every video we create has the perfect song that adds to the story rather than clashing with it. Contact us today if you can’t seem to find the perfect song for your videos.
